A total of 13 public museums and art galleries are currently located in Seoul, and 13 cases are under construction and planning. The portion of artefacts and artworks on display accounts for only about five percent of the total collection, and most cultural and artistic materials are stored. The number of collections is increasing exponentially, and the city of Seoul needs an institution that specialised in preserving and managing the materials safe.

Accordingly, the specialised institution for the integrated management of cultural and artistic materials of public museums and galleries in Seoul is currently being planned. This shall include not only the functions of the storage facility but also the support of specialised functions and various cultural and artistic programmes that open to the public. Visitors can also experience programmes directly or indirectly. Above all, it will be a space where many experience and education that are not easily accessible to the general public, such as museum storage, relics management area, and conservation-science room.
